The title came first, and the chorus followed. “You make me wanna” had it all: catchy, familiar and sexy, without giving too much away.
Left unsaid
The sentence is unfinished, but you instinctively fill in the rest the first time you hear it. You know exactly what it means, because you’ve felt it before.
“Four words. Everything we wanted to say.”
Lukas Wullaert / On keeping it short
Maxine Meyer / The debut
Why this song, first?
I wanted people to feel my passion. Something a little sexy, but familiar enough to see themselves in. As soon as I heard “You make me wanna”, I knew it was the one.
Maxine Meyer / The feeling
What are you really singing about?
It’s that thought you have about someone but don’t quite dare to say out loud. You find them incredibly sexy. You want more, but nothing has happened yet.
For me, it’s about anticipation. The tension, the curiosity, the ache of wanting someone and having to wait.

A line, up close
DON’T BE SHY. TONIGHT YOU’RE MINE.
Maxine Meyer
What does this line mean to you?
That line captures the whole feeling. You want them to stop holding back and make a move, because you haven’t quite found the courage to do it yourself.
“Tonight you’re mine” is also a quiet “stay with me, don’t go.” You want it to happen before the moment slips away, even if you can only bring yourself to hint at it.
